Discussion #1: The Beach House

Let’s go ahead now and roll out the first discussion on book #15, The Beach House. Have you finished reading chapters 1-10? If so, let’s talk about your thoughts on questions like these:

  • Do you like the way Green opens with the many different characters? Or do you find it confusing?
  • Can you envision where each relationship is headed? Or are you finding yourself drawn in to find out?
  • What are your thoughts about the storyline? Is it believable?
  • So far, how do you compare this novel to other books you’ve read by Jane Green? (If applicable.)

Feel free to answer these questions or just post whatever comes to mind – this forum is completely open, as long as the discussion doesn’t include spoilers! What are your thoughts?

Can I have more time? I am sorry, but I have not picked it up much..mea culpa, been enjoying the sunny weather..

At first it was hard to get started but after the first twenty or so pages, it really started flying! It wasn’t confusing, because it seems like a cast of characters and the story of their lives and what happens. Almost a back story. I liked it.

I find myself drawn in. Each one is so different. Not at all what you would expect. It is going to be interesting to see how they come in the circle that is their lives.

What is not to believe? Life happens, and when things fall apart it is never easy, and often ugly. Sad when there are children involved. Those are the two storylines that bother me the most right now.

This book is more serious than her other books that we have read, but I am liking it.

  3. @Becca – I’m in total agreement about how the pages started flying. And I like the way the characters kind of weave together as the story unfolds. It’s definitely drawing me in as I turn the pages.

So far, the story is believable and unpredictable. I like that kind of novel! But as for the children, I don’t like that aspect of the storyline. Gives me flashbacks of the worst kind that I wouldn’t wish on anyone, not even characters in a book.

Serious issues here, and yet modern ones that we’re dealing with in society these days. I’m interested in knowing how things turn out. We picked a good one here.

I am up to page 179..hang out with me? I am reading more today, hopefully I will be caught up tonight or tomorrow…

I just finished part two. If you are ready, so am I! Let’s talk! 🙂 Thanks for waiting for me, friend! I will start the next part of the book!
